Southern Bred Southern Reared (SBSR) is a collective of Standardbred breeders and vendors from across Otago and Southland, brought together by a shared commitment to promoting the strength, quality and success of southern-bred horses. Established to create a unified identity for breeders spread throughout the lower South Island, SBSR provides a platform to increase visibility, strengthen industry connections, and showcase the calibre of horses raised in this unique breeding region.

The South has long been recognised for producing horses with soundness, athleticism and strength — qualities shaped by fertile land, wide open space and generations of experienced horsemanship. SBSR exists to ensure that both the horses and the people behind them are represented under one trusted banner, giving buyers and industry participants a clear view of the depth, consistency and credibility that southern breeding continues to offer.

Leading into the NZB Standardbred Sales, SBSR works to promote eligible yearlings through coordinated marketing initiatives, on-farm inspections and collective promotional opportunities designed to place horses in front of as many potential buyers as possible. Beyond the sales ring, SBSR continues to follow and celebrate the achievements of its graduates on the racetrack, reinforcing the proven performance of southern bloodlines at every level of competition.
